How to Win on Slot Machines at Rosie’s in Bristol

Rosie’s, a gambling parlor opened last summer in an old Kmart building at 6807 Midlothian Turnpike in Bristol, features hundreds of machine that mimic slot-style horse racing machines while offering gamblers access to archived horse races through an algorithm. However, these “historical horse racing machines” do not operate like traditional slots but instead allow users to place bets based on archived races using an algorithmic platform that offers them.

Historic horse race results are used to generate “winnable” game outcomes, and games pay out only when a certain amount has been won, according to Rosie’s spokesman Matt Smith. Results appear both on the machine’s screen and can also be checked online; winning spins are marked by orange lights while losing spins are indicated with blue ones.

Players can place bets on horse races at Rosie’s and Colonial Downs, the state’s sole legal gambling operation. All bets placed are pooled into an overall pot and part of it is used to support purses at the horse track.

Rosie’s Gaming Emporium in Dumfries, Prince William County is currently the sole licensed gambling operation in Northern Virginia and boasts 150 historic horse race machines. Similar establishments can be found in Richmond and three other Virginia cities; later this year a seventh site, housed within a Quality Inn hotel in Collinsville will open as well. A portion of proceeds from these machines is used to support charitable initiatives within their local communities.
